CHARITY
“You can’t imagine a future,” said by a woman whose abuse began when she was six. At 15 years old she was suddenly taken out of Geometry class one day and sent to live with strangers having nothing but the clothes on her back. As frightening as that sounds, she was being rescued from mental, physical, and sexual abuse at the hands of a family member.
Think back to when you were six years old, can you imagine? What about being at a point in your life where you thought your only options were to kill your abuser, kill yourself, or run away? All of this is real for a child living in an abusive home. For the woman who was rescued by The Children’s Attention Home, even though it was a relief to get away from her abusive home, she was terrified about what was to come. Not knowing what to expect next or what your future holds is an unbelievably scary thought for a child. More than 15 years later, she is living a happy, healthy life and starting a family of her own, knowing that her future has every reason to be bright.
This is one example of the type of local charities Speedway Children’s Charities funds each year. Our goal is to support organizations in Charlotte who are helping children in a time of need. We work all year long to raise funds through events and racing attractions and at the end of the year we get to give it all away! Last year, we granted over $407,000 to 55 charities in Charlotte. Our mission is to care for children in educational, financial, social and medical need in order to help them lead productive lives.
When you donate to SCC, you are making a difference in the life of a child. For example, your donation of $25 can provide three meals a day/seven days a week for a child who otherwise would go without the proper meals. A $150 donation would provide 10 free speech-language screenings for at-risk preschoolers in distressed neighborhoods. No matter the amount, your donation is going directly to help a child in the Charlotte area.
